Privacy Policy for BlueBlip

Effective date: 2026-10-01
Last updated: 2026-10-01

FPTech Pty Ltd (“FPTech”, “we”, “us” or “our”) operates the BlueBlip mobile application (“BlueBlip” or “the App”).

BlueBlip is an outdoor trip recording, navigation and location-based application that allows users to record trips, create location-based Blips, save notes, photos and voice recordings, follow routes, backtrack, and save or export trip information.

This Privacy Policy explains how BlueBlip accesses, collects, uses, stores, shares and protects information when you use the App.

BlueBlip is available for Android and iOS.

1. Information we access or collect

1.1 Account information

BlueBlip can be used with a BlueBlip account.

When you create or use an account, we may collect and process:

  • Your email address
  • Your BlueBlip account identifier
  • Your chosen BlueBlip friendly name
  • Email verification status
  • Sign-in and authentication status
  • Account-security and password-reset information
  • Device registration information used to manage authorised devices
  • An app installation or device identifier used for device management
  • Device activation or deactivation status for the BlueBlip app.

Authentication services are provided using approved cloud infrastructure, including Google Firebase Authentication.

FPTech does not store your plain-text password.

BlueBlip may limit the number of active devices associated with an account. Device identifiers and activation information may therefore be stored with your account for this purpose.

1.2 Precise location information

Location is a core function of BlueBlip.

When you use location-based features, BlueBlip may access precise location information provided by your device, including:

  • Latitude and longitude
  • GPS accuracy
  • Location timestamps
  • Movement and route information derived from successive GPS positions

BlueBlip uses this information for features such as:

  • Recording a trip
  • Displaying your position on a map
  • Measuring travelled distance
  • Recording route points
  • Creating Trip Blips
  • Creating Quick Blips
  • Following a previously recorded or planned route
  • Backtracking along a route
  • Displaying location accuracy
  • Providing navigation-related information

1.3 Background location

When you deliberately start a trip or another feature that requires continuous tracking, BlueBlip may continue to access your location while the App is in the background or while your device screen is off, where permitted by your device and operating system.

Background location is used only to support the user-initiated trip recording and navigation functions of BlueBlip.

BlueBlip does not use your location for advertising.

BlueBlip does not sell your location information.

FPTech does not centrally collect or store your complete trip location history as part of BlueBlip’s normal trip-recording operation. Saved trips and their route data are primarily stored locally on your device.

1.4 Trip and route information

When you use BlueBlip, the App may create and store information relating to your trips, including:

  • Trip names
  • Route points
  • GPS coordinates
  • Dates and timestamps
  • Trip duration
  • Travelled distance
  • Average speed and related trip calculations
  • Tracking settings
  • GPS recording profile
  • Time-based or distance-based recording settings
  • Planned route information
  • Backtrack information
  • Follow Again route information
  • Blips associated with a trip

BlueBlip trip information is primarily stored locally on your device.

BlueBlip does not provide automatic cloud synchronisation of your saved trip history between devices unless a future feature specifically states otherwise.

1.5 Blips, notes, photos and voice recordings

BlueBlip allows you to create location-based Blips.

Depending on how you use a Blip, it may contain:

  • A GPS position
  • Date and time
  • A text note
  • A photograph
  • A voice recording
  • Information linking the Blip to a particular trip

This information is stored locally as part of your BlueBlip data unless you deliberately export, share or otherwise send it outside the App.

1.6 Camera and photo access

If you choose to add a photograph to a Blip, BlueBlip may request access to your device camera.

Where required by the operating system or a selected feature, BlueBlip may also request access to photographs or media on your device.

Camera and photo access is used only for features where you choose to capture, select, save or use an image.

BlueBlip does not continuously access your camera.

1.7 Microphone access

If you choose to create a voice note, BlueBlip may request access to your device microphone.

Microphone access is used only when you deliberately use a voice-recording feature.

BlueBlip does not continuously record or monitor your microphone.

1.8 Files, imports and exports

BlueBlip may allow eligible users to import and export BlueBlip trip files using the .bbtrip file format.

A BlueBlip trip export may contain information such as:

  • Route and location data
  • Trip information
  • Blips
  • Notes
  • Photographs
  • Voice recordings
  • Other information associated with the exported trip

Exported BlueBlip trip packages use encryption and integrity protection designed to protect the contents of the file.

When you export a trip, you decide where the exported file is stored or with whom it is shared.

When you import a trip, BlueBlip processes the file you select in order to restore or display its contents.

Files that you export outside BlueBlip are under your control. If you save or share a .bbtrip file using another application, cloud-storage service, messaging application or other third-party service, that third party’s privacy practices may apply.

1.9 Device and technical information

BlueBlip and the service providers used to operate it may process limited technical information necessary for authentication, account security, purchases, device management and application operation.

This may include:

  • Operating system information
  • BlueBlip app version
  • App installation identifier
  • Device registration information
  • Authentication status
  • Network and service communication information
  • Technical information relating to purchase or entitlement validation
  • Diagnostic information provided as part of a support request

This information may be used to operate BlueBlip, enforce device limits, diagnose problems, protect accounts and provide support.

1.10 Support communications

If you contact FPTech for support, we may process information that you provide to us, including:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your BlueBlip friendly name
  • Screenshots
  • Diagnostic information
  • App or device information
  • Trip information that you deliberately provide
  • Exported BlueBlip files that you deliberately send to us
  • The content of your support request

We do not receive your locally stored trips unless you deliberately provide them to us.

1.11 BlueBlip Pro purchases

BlueBlip may offer a one-time BlueBlip Pro Lifetime purchase or other paid functionality.

Payments are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play, depending on your device.

FPTech does not receive or store your full payment-card information.

BlueBlip uses RevenueCat to assist with purchase verification and entitlement management.

We or our approved service providers may process purchase-related information such as:

  • Product identifier
  • Purchase status
  • BlueBlip Pro entitlement status
  • Store transaction reference
  • Purchase validation information
  • Restore-purchase information
  • Information required to associate an entitlement with a BlueBlip account

Apple, Google and RevenueCat may process information in accordance with their own privacy policies and legal obligations.

2. How We Use Information

  • Create and manage BlueBlip accounts
  • Authenticate users

  • Meet legal, accounting, fraud-prevention and security obligations

We do not sell personal information.

We do not sell precise location information.

We do not use your personal information or trip history for third-party advertising or data-broker activities.

3. Local Data and Cloud Data

BlueBlip has been designed so that there is an important distinction between information stored locally on your device and information required for your BlueBlip account.

3.1 Local BlueBlip data

Information such as your:

  • Saved trips
  • Recorded routes
  • GPS route points
  • Trip Blips
  • Standalone Blips
  • Notes
  • Photographs
  • Voice recordings

is primarily stored locally on your device.

FPTech does not automatically receive this information simply because you have signed into a BlueBlip account.

There is currently no automatic cloud synchronisation of your saved BlueBlip trips between your devices.

3.2 Cloud account data

Limited information required to operate your BlueBlip account may be stored using approved cloud services.

This can include:

  • Email address
  • Account identifier
  • Email verification status
  • Friendly name
  • Device-registration information
  • Installation identifiers
  • Device activation status
  • Account and entitlement information

This information allows BlueBlip to provide authentication, account management, device management and paid-feature access.

4. Maps and Location Services

BlueBlip uses mapping and location services to display maps, positions and routes.

Map services may include Google Maps or other mapping services provided by the mobile operating system or an approved map provider.

When map functionality is used, the map provider may receive technical information necessary to provide map tiles, map content, location services or related functionality.

This may include information such as your network address, map area being requested, device information or location information where required to provide the selected map feature.

These providers process information according to their own privacy policies and terms.

FPTech does not use map services to build advertising profiles from your BlueBlip trip history.

5. How We Share Information

We share information only where reasonably necessary to operate BlueBlip, provide a feature requested by you, comply with applicable law, protect users or secure our services.

5.1 Google Firebase and cloud infrastructure

BlueBlip uses Google Firebase and related Google cloud services for functions including:

  • User authentication
  • Email verification
  • Account information
  • Device-management information
  • Account security

Only information required for these services is intended to be processed through the relevant cloud systems.

Your locally stored BlueBlip trip history is not automatically uploaded to Firebase as part of normal trip recording.

5.2 Apple and Google

Apple and Google may process information when you:

  • Download BlueBlip
  • Purchase BlueBlip Pro
  • Restore a purchase
  • Use operating-system location services
  • Grant device permissions
  • Use applicable platform services

Payment information is processed by the applicable app store and not directly by FPTech.

5.3 RevenueCat

BlueBlip uses RevenueCat to help manage purchase verification and BlueBlip Pro entitlements.

RevenueCat may receive limited account, app, device and transaction information necessary to determine whether paid functionality should be available.

5.4 Mapping providers

Map providers may process information required to provide map and location functionality as described in this Privacy Policy.

5.5 Services selected by you

If you deliberately export or share a BlueBlip trip through another service, such as a messaging, email, file-storage or cloud-storage application, information will be transferred to the service selected by you.

FPTech does not control how that third-party service processes information after you choose to share it.

5.6 Service and support providers

We may use carefully selected providers that assist us in operating, securing or supporting BlueBlip.

These providers may process information only where necessary for the service they provide.

5.7 Legal, security and safety reasons

We may disclose information where required by applicable law, court order or lawful government request, or where reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property, safety or security of FPTech, BlueBlip users or others.

6. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information processed through BlueBlip.

These measures may include:

  • Authenticated account access
  • Restricted backend permissions
  • Cloud database security rules
  • Access controls
  • Secure communications with service providers
  • Trusted cloud-service security controls
  • Purchase validation through approved app-store and entitlement providers
  • Encryption and integrity protection for BlueBlip trip export files

BlueBlip keeps trip information locally where practical in order to reduce unnecessary transmission of sensitive location data.

You are responsible for protecting access to your mobile device, exported files and BlueBlip account.

No method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

7. Data Retention

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary to operate BlueBlip, provide requested services, meet legal obligations, prevent fraud, resolve disputes and maintain security.

Our general retention approach is:

  • Account information: retained while your BlueBlip account remains active, unless deletion is requested or retention is legally required.
  • Friendly name and device-registration information: retained while necessary to provide account and device-management functionality.
  • Authentication information: retained according to the requirements of our authentication provider and your account status.
  • Purchase and entitlement information: retained for as long as reasonably necessary to validate purchases, restore entitlements, prevent fraud and meet accounting or legal obligations.
  • Support communications: retained for as long as reasonably necessary to resolve your request and maintain appropriate business records.
  • Local trips and Blips: remain on your device until you delete them, clear the App’s local data, or uninstall the App where the operating system removes that data.
  • Exported .bbtrip files: remain wherever you chose to save or share them until you or the recipient deletes them.

FPTech cannot delete copies of exported trip files that you have stored outside the App or shared with another person or third-party service.

We may retain limited information following account deletion where reasonably necessary for legal compliance, accounting, fraud prevention, transaction verification, dispute resolution or security.

8. Account and Data Deletion

You may request deletion of your BlueBlip account and associated cloud account information.

Requesting deletion

You can request account deletion using the account-deletion option provided through BlueBlip or by contacting:

Email: support@fptech.co.za
Subject: BlueBlip Account Deletion Request

Please send the request from the email address associated with your BlueBlip account where possible.

To protect your account, we may ask you to verify your identity before processing a deletion request.

When your BlueBlip account is deleted

Where applicable:

  • Your BlueBlip cloud account will be deleted.
  • Your authentication record will be deleted or disabled as part of the deletion process.
  • Account-linked profile information will be deleted.
  • Stored device registrations associated with the account will be removed.
  • Account-linked friendly-name information will be removed or de-identified where appropriate.
  • Other account-linked cloud information will be deleted or de-identified where reasonably possible.

Some limited purchase, transaction, fraud-prevention, accounting or security records may be retained where required for legitimate legal or operational reasons.

Information retained independently by Apple, Google, RevenueCat or another third-party provider remains subject to that provider’s own retention requirements.

Local BlueBlip data

Deleting your BlueBlip cloud account does not necessarily delete trips, Blips, photographs, voice recordings or other files stored locally on your device.

You remain in control of locally stored BlueBlip information and can delete saved content through BlueBlip or remove the App’s local data using your device controls.

Exported .bbtrip files stored elsewhere must be deleted separately.

We aim to process valid account-deletion requests within 30 days unless a longer period is reasonably required for legal, security, fraud-prevention or accounting reasons.

9. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on your location and applicable data-protection law, you may have the right to:

  • Request access to personal information that FPTech holds about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information

  • Disable camera access through your device settings
  • Disable microphone access through your device settings
  • Delete locally stored trips and Blips
  • Export eligible BlueBlip trip information where that functionality is available
  • Lodge a complaint with an applicable data-protection authority

You can change BlueBlip’s access to location, camera, microphone and other device permissions through the privacy or permissions settings provided by Android or iOS.

Disabling certain permissions may prevent related BlueBlip features from functioning.

To make a privacy request, contact:

support@fptech.co.za

10. Location Permission Choices

Your mobile operating system controls the location permissions available to BlueBlip.

BlueBlip will request location access where required for location-based functionality.

Depending on your device and operating system, you may be able to choose between different levels of location access.

If you deny or disable precise location access, features including trip recording, Blips, route following and backtracking may not operate correctly.

If you disable background location access, BlueBlip may be unable to continuously record a trip while the App is in the background or while the screen is off.

You can change these permissions at any time through your device settings.

11. User-Initiated Sharing

BlueBlip may allow you to share information with another person.

Sharing is initiated by you.

For example, you may choose to export a BlueBlip trip and send the resulting file using another application or service.

When you deliberately share information:

  • You choose the information being shared.
  • You choose the application, service or recipient.
  • The selected third party may receive the shared information.
  • The third party’s own privacy policy and security practices may apply.

FPTech is not responsible for how another person or independent third-party service handles information that you deliberately provide to them.

12. Children’s Privacy

BlueBlip is not directed specifically at children.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in circumstances where parental or other legally required consent should have been obtained.

If you believe a child has provided personal information to FPTech inappropriately, please contact us so that we can investigate and take appropriate action.

13. International Processing

FPTech is based in South Africa.

BlueBlip uses service providers that may process account, authentication, purchase or technical information in countries outside South Africa or outside your country of residence.

These may include cloud and technology providers operating infrastructure in multiple jurisdictions.

Where applicable, we take reasonable steps to ensure information under our control is handled in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable data-protection requirements.

14. South African Privacy Rights

You may contact FPTech regarding:

  • Personal information held about you
  • Correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Deletion requests
  • Objections to processing where applicable
  • Privacy concerns or complaints

You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa or another applicable data-protection authority.

15. Third-Party Services

BlueBlip may rely on third-party services including:

  • Google Firebase
  • Google cloud infrastructure
  • Google Maps or related mapping services
  • Google Play
  • Apple App Store and Apple platform services
  • RevenueCat

These services may process information necessary to provide their respective functions and may operate according to their own privacy policies and terms.

FPTech does not control the independent processing activities of Apple, Google, RevenueCat or other third-party providers.

16. No Sale of Personal Information

FPTech does not sell BlueBlip users’ personal information.

FPTech does not sell users’ precise location information.

FPTech does not sell BlueBlip trip histories, Blips, photographs, notes or voice recordings.

17. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when BlueBlip changes, when new functionality is introduced, when our service providers change or when legal or store requirements require an update.

When material changes are made, we will update the Last updated date at the top of this Privacy Policy.

You should periodically review this Privacy Policy for changes.
